I didn't find any Narnia icons to my taste, so I made one. Pretty happy with how it turned out, considering it's the first icon I've ever made. And now of course I have next to no on-topic use for it, because I need another fandom like I need another hole in my head. But PETER WITH THE SWORD OMG. *still mentally squeeing over tLtWatW trailer*

And now, to make this post a little less gratuitous, one of my drabbles (although at 433 words, it's not exactly drabble-y) from the late session at [livejournal.com profile] queerditch_pub this evening. There was another one (and the beginnings of a third), but I didn't like them. The theme this week was "Things that go bump in the night".

My drabbles from the late session of Queerditch this week. The theme was "Sins." I think I'm becoming addicted to the writing under pressure thing.

Remus/Sirius: Confess your sins and ask for forgiveness
And it's too late now, isn't it? )

Regulus/Squid: Sins of the flesh
Why can't I resist teh crack? )

Luna/Moaning Myrtle: Envy
None of them understand )

Remus/Hermione: keep it quiet
It's hard, not telling anyone )

drabbles

My first time at [livejournal.com profile] queerditch_pub tonight. It was fun :) Anyway, here are my drabbles from the evening session:

Peter & Regulus - They say being your friend is a mistake (152 words)
Peter knew he shouldn't be doing it )

Squid/Bellatrix/Narcissa/Fred/George/a bar of lavender scented soap - It was a mistake so dreadful that it almost broke me, but I'm not gonna let it get me down, oh no. (111 words)
I could not resist teh crack )

Remus/Regulus - Every great mistake has a halfway moment, a split second when it can be recalled and perhaps remedied. (210 words)
because I can only rarely resist Remus/Regulus )

And some of us stayed behind in the chat and did a little after-hours drabbling...

Draco/Percy - The bubblegum wrapper beneath the potted geranium. (151 words)
this one bit me immediately )

Bellatrix/Severus - You tempted me to your chambers with a potion deep and black, yet it's not enough to cure the bitter ache of those things you want but lack (206 words)

Bellatrix is so damn creepy. )

Characters: Harry, Sirius, Ron
A/N: Written for the [livejournal.com profile] hp100 challenge #100: "One Hundred".

I wake up at Grimmauld Place and dress as quickly as I can. Hurrying down the stairs I see him. Sirius turns and grins at me. I can still remember my shock and disbelief the day he came back through the Veil.

Sirius grabs me by the shoulders, still grinning, and says, "Harry." Then, for some reason, he starts shaking me, repeating, "Harry."

"Harry, wake up."

I open my eyes and see Ron, looking worried. I'm lying in the dormitory. The same dream, over and over again. I must've had it a hundred times now. It never gets any easier.

Title: Meanwhile, down in the dungeons...
Word Count: 100
Pairings: SS/LM, SS/RL, others implied
A/N: woo, I haven't had drabble-inspiration in a while. The title just goes to show that I'm not having title-inspiration. Written for the [livejournal.com profile] hp100 Challenge #97, "Stuffed".

Staring into the flames, he realizes he's had too much to drink when the memories start flooding back to him.

Lucius didn't even try to break the news gently. Severus stared at him blankly as the words dropped from his lips: I have no choice, and my family and you always knew this would happen.

Years later, he watched Lupin stuff clothing into a bag, saying I have to go to him and I'm so sorry and I never thought this would happen.

Cursing, he smashes his glass into the fireplace and reflects on how much he hates the Blacks.

No, no I don't have anything better to do than drabble. Well, actually I do, and I feel very guilty about the fact that I'm not doing it. But inspiration keeps striking, and I really like drabbling. It's like...bonsai fiction.

Title: Thwarted Again
Word Count: 100
Characters: Remus, The Whomping Willow(?)
A/N: I have to thank my brother, who will never read this, for the phrase "impotent, arboreal rage", which I really like. Written for the [livejournal.com profile] hp100 challenge #95, "Root".

The Whomping Willow loves to hit things. Attack them, destroy them, hurt them. Branches flailing and lashing out in an endless stream of vegetative wrath, driving away all those that come near.

After the teachers put a stop to the game of running up to touch its trunk, the Willow didn't get to hit things very much anymore. Even the birds knew better than to try to nest in its branches.

This is why, every month, the Willow quivers with anticipation as the thin, sickly-looking boy approaches, and then shudders in impotent, arboreal rage as he slips beneath its roots.

Three more drabbles. Warning for the wary, these are all kind of angsty. The second and third were sort of inspired by [livejournal.com profile] sappho_cried's drabble "Doubts". All written for [livejournal.com profile] hp100 challenge #95, "Root".

Disclaimer: If they were mine, this is probably what they'd really be doing.

"And so, while the Goblin Rebellion can be said to have many causes, most historians agree that the root cause was..." Binns droned on and on, and Harry couldn't take it any longer. He stopped paying attention and started staring out the window, letting his mind drift to Draco and the note he'd found on his pillow that morning.

It had been short and to the point. It's over. You know why. I'm sorry. It had been unsigned, but no one else would have written him a note like that.

Harry smirked and began plotting. Over? He'd see about that.

Drabbling on...yet another for the [livejournal.com profile] hp100 challenge #94, "Valentine's Day".

Title: James Isn't
Characters: Marauders
Word Count: 100

James isn't stupid. He saw Sirius in Honeydukes, picking up this piece of chocolate and then that one, looking uncharacteristically uncertain.

James isn't blind, either. He saw Remus leaving the Common Room without a word, dressed warmly, obviously planning to go outside.

Because James isn't cruel, he stops Peter from following Remus to ask where he's going. He has a pretty good idea of where Remus is going, or at least with who.

And even though his two best friends haven't gotten around to telling him about this change in their relationship, James isn't angry. Silently, he wishes them a happy Valentine's Day.

I ended up rewriting 'Didn't Work Out' because, well, I hated it. It just didn't work with the rest of the drabbles, and it didn't really bode well for the future (and I'm crazy enough to care about setting up a 'series' that currently stands at 400 words for the 'future' :P). So I came up with a better version over my coffee this morning, and discovered that drabbling is much harder when you're writing in a spiral notebook - they don't have word count :P

Didn't Work Out v2.0 )

I appear to be developing something of a drabble-series, here. Both of these were written for [livejournal.com profile] hp100's challenge #94, "Valentine's Day".

Title: The Taste of Revenge
Word Count: 100
Characters: Snape
A/N: This follows immediately on the heels of Reconciliation?

Severus stared at the box of chocolates in his hand, and then at the door that had just closed behind the Boy Who Lived. So the idiot boy thought he could just come crawling back with sweets and an apology, now that his nasty, red-headed little paramour had left him. He snorted. Happy Valentine's Day, Severus, indeed. The arrogant brat had probably expected to be welcomed back with open arms.

Still, the inevitable groveling would prove amusing, at least until Potter realized that Severus wasn't playing to the script. He opened the box.

And really, they were very good chocolates.

Title: Didn't Work Out
Word Count: 100
Characters: FW,GW
A/N: This falls somewhere between Dear John and Reconciliation?. I couldn't resist the desire to write a roses-are-red poem.

After Harry left, still visibly upset, Fred returned to his shocked contemplation of the card sitting on his desk. He didn't doubt the sincerity of the sender in the slightest. Harry had been startled, then angry, demanding an explanation Fred didn't dare give him, even if he'd been inclined to put himself in the middle of a lovers' spat.

George came into the room, whistling cheerfully. "What've you got there? Valentine?" Wordlessly, Fred handed him the card, and George's eyes widened as he read the inscription.

Violets are blue
Roses are red
Touch him again
And you will be dead.

Title: Engagement
Word Count: 100
Characters: Draco, Pansy Parkinson
Rating: G
Disclaimer: My birthday's coming up soon, but I don't think JKR wants to give them to me, so they're not mine.
Notes: Written for the [livejournal.com profile] hp100 challenge #94: "Valentine's Day".

Pansy knew what she wanted for Valentine's Day. And she knew she was likely to get it. Their parents had spoken over the Christmas holidays. Everything had been arranged.

She watched hungrily as the owls winged their ways over the breakfast tables. She was looking for the one that carried a gilded roll of parchment. She found it, and her eyes followed it as it was dropped next to his breakfast plate.

Draco unrolled the parchment. My Son, it said, This missive is to inform you of your engagement to Pansy Parkinson...

She didn’t understand why Draco's howl sounded so…bereft.

"Severus."

"Potter."

"I just wanted to tell you, things didn’t work out with Fred."

A sneer. "So sorry to hear it. And this pertains to me – how ?"

"I – I thought – "

"Oh. You thought."

"I – er – well – "

"Get to the point, Potter."

"I – I just wanted to say – I’m sorry."

"You’re...sorry."

"Er – yes. And – I got you these."

A box of chocolates, clumsily shoved into his hand. Lips, so achingly familiar, pressed to his cheek. He longed to kiss him back, to give in and forgive everything.

"Happy Valentine’s Day, Severus."

"Get out of my rooms, Potter."

Every year, the flowers came, and every year they held a new "surprise". Last year they’d been subtly cursed, so that anyone who touched them would die slowly and painfully. The year before that, they’d been a Portkey to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.

Severus sighed and cast a shielding charm over the bouquet, probing delicately to determine what this year’s gift held in store for him. Poison on the thorns, how unoriginal. The card, as always, simply read Happy Valentine’s Day. He disposed of the roses with a flick of his wand.

"Lucius, you son of a bitch."
