Whew, a whole slew of drabbles at once. What better to do on a Saturday night...All parts of the Sets That Would Not Die, and all written for the
hp100 challenge #95, "Root".
Title: Beginning to Plot
Word Count: 100
Characters: Harry
A/N: Sequel to The Taste of Revenge
Harry sighed, sagging against the door that had just slammed behind him. He hadn't really expected the chocolates to work. He'd really bollixed it up this time. Severus had looked so angry. Not that Harry could blame him. At the root of it, he had no one to blame but himself, and maybe the Firewhisky. Despair threatened to claim him.
He had no idea how to make this right. He just knew he couldn't accept the dismissal he'd just received as the end of everything. He needed a plan.
Harry grinned suddenly. He knew just the blokes to talk to.
Title: Enlisting Help
Word Count: 100
Characters: HP, FW, GW
A/N: Sequel to "Beginning to Plot" above.
The twins stared at Harry, wearing identically dubious expressions.
"Let me get this straight," Fred said.
"You snogged Fred-"
"Quite thoroughly, I might add-"
"And then dumped Snape, on the basis of a few drunken kisses."
Fred smirked. "Said I was good."
George elbowed him. "And now you want us to help get him back?"
Harry nodded. "I know it's crazy, but I need something devious, and you two are the masters of that. I want to root around in your heads and find a way to get Severus back."
They looked at each other, then nodded.
"We'll do it."
Title: Brooding
Word Count: 100
Characters: Draco
A/N: Sequel to The Note.
Draco was brooding. He'd always known this day was coming, so why was he so upset that it had finally arrived? He was the last of the Malfoy name. It was imperative that he marry and father children to carry on his line. He'd always known this. So why was he so distraught, faced with the reality?
The root of all his problems was Harry. That quirky, shy smile. Those soft, red lips. Callused hands, caressing his face, and lower things.
Draco gave himself a shake. Pansy, he reminded himself. It was Pansy he ought to be fantasizing about now.
Title: Encounters
Word Count: 100
Characters: Harry,Draco
A/N: Sequel to Brooding, above.
It seemed as though there wasn't anywhere Draco could go without running into Harry. Walking into the Great Hall for breakfast, he'd feel something brush his side and turn to see a flash of green eyes and black hair. Cutting up roots in the greenhouses to finish a Herbology project, he'd run into the Boy Who Lived repotting a juvenile mandrake.
Finally he'd had enough. When he encountered Harry in a deserted corridor in the middle of the night, he grabbed his sleeve. "Why are you doing this?" he demanded.
"I thought you'd never ask," Harry said, and kissed him.
Title: Hope
Word Count: 100
Characters: Harry,Draco
A/N: Sequel/Parallel to "Encounters", above.
Harry hadn't planned on kissing Draco in the corridor. He'd spent all day thinking about that note, trying to convince himself it was over. Like, over over. Like never kissing Draco again, because he was engaged now, and all his kisses belonged to Pansy.
He'd always sort of remembered that Draco was a Malfoy, and that Malfoys had roots, the kind that had to be preserved and continued. He'd just never related it to the two of them until it was gone.
And then Draco was there, and Harry had no choice but to crush their lips together and hope.
